C&C Honolulu: All signs = Engineer

Engineer Grade is the most economical, but least reflective and is often placed in neighborhoods and on roads with less travel. Engineer Grade is designed to last for at least 7 years outdoors.

High Intensity Grade is three times more reflective than Engineer Grade and is most often used on city streets as well as roads with frequent night traffic. High Intensity Grade is designed to last for at least 10 years outdoors.

MUTCD Section 2C.23 BUMP and DIP Signs (W8-1, W8-2)
Guidance: BUMP (W8-1) and DIP (W8-2) signs (see Figure 2C-4) should be used to give warning of a sharp rise or depression in the profile of the road.

Option: These signs may be supplemented with an Advisory Speed plaque (see Section 2C.46).

Standard: The DIP sign shall not be used at a short stretch of depressed alignment that might momentarily hide a vehicle.

Guidance: A short stretch of depressed alignment that might momentarily hide a vehicle should be treated as a no-passing zone when centerline striping is provided on a two-lane or three-lane road (see Section 3B.02).
